Jazz Diva

The Singer Icon fair is a nice little event that ends tomorrow. While visiting the event, I got to thinking of some of the great jazz vocalists who were true icons back in their day.

I've tried to create a Jazz diva feeling with ArisAris's new exuberant dress and BSD Design Studio's surreal abstract shoes from Shoetopia. My look is completed with a new shape from Baholi (all of Baholi's shapes are divas!) plus the latest gift skin from Deeesses and hair from Ploom.

At the Hotel

The Bitacora Travel Fair takes you on a journey to the four corners of the world, but one thing about traveling is that you need a place to stay. BSD Design Studio has got you covered with their imagining of a boutique hotel suite for relaxing after a hard day of sightseeing or shopping. Goodbye to Summer

It's always Summer somewhere, especially in SL, and Flow's excellent boardshorts and retro swim suits from this month's Mens Dept (ending today) provide a nice excuse to ignore the season and enjoy some SL rays. The boardshorts have a texture-change band and like the swim suits are available with liquid-mesh sizing in a range of colors and at an attractive price.

California Bungalow

The Challenge is a monthly event organized by Bauwerk and L&K Prefabs where participating builders have to create an object to fit a randomly generated theme. The second round theme this month is California Bungalow - not the most exotic, but there are some nice items from the participants that should appeal to many (previews can be seen on the website).

Dream Boss

A short post for you guys today with some gifts you can go grab. Pop Music & Video Games

It's always hard to get back to blogging when I've been away because I spend so much time catching up, but My Attic's particularly great February round (ends Feb 28) with its Pop Music theme brought the necessary inspiration to do a little playlist. The collection has awesome stuff for women as well as the very cool "MPop" pose prop from W.Winx that is texture change, completely moddable and lots of fun for doing photos. It paired up well with the Arcade video game piece, new from End of Daze.

The male avi features an excellent new skin from Essences - nice to see them concentrating on the male side of things again - available in numerous tones and with various facial hair options. Hair is by Mr  C: designed for "lovers" it was released for Valentines and can be worn by women. Clothing is from Mens Dept and I especially love the cool leather look from Razorblade Jacket with texture change highlights on sale for 150l until Mar 1.

Modularity

My last post on Four Walls concentrated on some of the rustic items, the grungy even. This time I wanted to feature the more modern gifts - those with clean lines and often modular in concept. Pieces such as Scarlet Creative's shelving units (the gift includes numerous versions that you can mix and match) or Breno's reading nook (part of a future modular series), work perfectly in Circa's "Infinity Cloud" Glass Studio from the hunt, which has cubed rooms off a main living space,  skylights with metallic highlights and panoramic glass windows (Mesh, 29 land impact). Four Walls goes to the end of the month and previews can be seen on the hunt website.

I'm wearing Diego, the new Mesh head from CheerNo, which is on sale at TDR Fusion until Feb 1. In a sense, with these mesh add-ons, be they heads, breasts, hands, feet or other appendages, the avi itself becomes modular, a base to which components can be added or subtracted at will depending on needs. CheerNo's head is interesting and can give a very realistic effect, but the lack of facial expressions can be a drawback. Some new releases shown below include Mens Dept items, a great shirt from HuHu (available with texture change hud) and an outfit from Apple May Designs, which is marking the opening of its new mens store with everything 50% off just this weekend (the AMD hoodie shown below is available in a different color free in store).

Four Walls

For the decor fans there are some amazing hunts on at the moment. The Four Walls hunt brings SL's top designers offering up some excellent gifts that should fit well with your design schemes. Gifts cost 20l so you need to choose wisely. There are too many standouts to name them all, but some of my favorites include a great dresser from Pilot, a cool lamp from Vespertine (one of three), Cheeky Pea's hockey items and a fun guitar prop/chair from Zinnias.

The Lodge

The post features Scarlet Creative's Noelle Chalet, which is a lovely small build with an interesting mix of raw wood, exposed beams and glass available at a great price (50l unfurnished, 199l furnished). Beautifully furnished with a modern twist, the house was intended as a rustic mountain getaway and looks great surrounded by snow, but some of the design elements made me think it could also work well as a small hunting lodge, perhaps on the plains of Africa. I'll show more of the build in a later post - if you are interested in seeing a demo though, follow the beacon from the landing point to the teleporter that takes you to Scarlet Creative's discount area.

Some of the female clothes here are free gifts from the opening of the Zenshi Shopping district. Many of the stores there had gifts out, but they may not be available for much longer (in fact, the Faster Pussycat dress gift shown below seems to have been removed, but a different version was available for free at the time of publication). Also like every month there are some great items at Mens Dept - I particularly like gO's Morten pants and the unisex sweater from Sleepy Eddy - so don't miss it (ends February 1).
